Summer Learning Series - Episode 1 | Kickoff: Building Capacity and Connection in Sexual and Public Health
The Denver PTC’s Summer Learning Series is a space for public health and health care professionals to strengthen their knowledge, skills, and partnerships for equitable care. In this kickoff session, Tai Edward Few and Helen Burnside introduce the Denver PTC’s 46-year history of training and technical assistance, outline the programs that make up our “three-legged stool” model, and share how a syndemic approach helps improve outcomes across sexual and community health.
In this Denver PTC Summer Learning Series session, Tai Edward Few and Quiana Stallsworth, MSCJ, PHR, explore how public health and health care professionals can apply responsible data practices that center respect, context, and equity. Drawing from Denver PTC’s internal framework, they discuss how to recognize systemic, social, and economic barriers to health outcomes—and how to use data responsibly to improve care decisions while avoiding stigmatizing language or assumptions.
In this Denver Prevention Training Center (a division of the Public Health Institute at Denver Health) Summer Learning Series session, Tai Edward Few (Denver PTC Associate Director) and Beverly Wasserman, MSN, RN, unpack Targeted Universalism—a practical framework for meeting universal goals while designing targeted strategies that lift up communities most impacted.
In the final Summer Learning Series session, Tai Edward Few (associate director, Denver PTC) and Sarah Rowan, M.D. (infectious disease physician; medical director) take a practical look at syndemics—how HIV, hepatitis C and substance use cluster and interact through social and structural drivers like housing, stigma and access to care.
