Upcoming Clinical Training

The Denver STD/HIV Prevention Training Center provides educational opportunities to a wide range of health professionals who serve communities across our region. Our courses build skills, teach applied theory, and create experiential learning environments appropriate for the broad range of professionals in attendance. You can expect our instructors to honor your expertise, and to invite your full participation in any course you attend.

3-Day STD Intensive

The highly rated 3-Day STD Intensive Course includes an STD didactic review, hands-on practicum rotations, case management discussions and lab demonstrations. Each course is limited to 5 participants and courses often fill up months in advance, so applicants are urged to register early.

After completing this registration form, you will be contacted by a member of the Denver PTC staff for a brief interview to determine course eligibility. You will then be given an access code to complete the registration process. You are not registered for this course unless you have received a confirmation that the registration process is complete. All Intensive courses are held in Denver. The Denver PTC Clinical Branch is affiliated with the Denver Metro Health Clinic, the region's largest STD clinic.

Ask, Screen, Intervene

This course aims to assist HIV care providers in learning new techniques to incorporate important intervention methods during the medical visit (even in the constrained care setting), in order to help their patients reduce risk behaviors. It is targeted to medical care providers of HIV positive patients (e.g., MDs, NPs, RNs, PAs); however, persons who deliver prevention messages (e.g., case managers, social workers, health educators) may also benefit from the information and techniques delivered throughout the course. Topics covered are: brief screening for HIV transmission risk behaviors; identifying and treating other STDs; communicating prevention messages; discussing sexual and drug-use behaviors; referring selected patients for additional prevention interventions and services; facilitating partner notification, counseling, and testing of sex and needle-sharing partners of infected persons.

Client-Centered Counseling

This popular half-day course covers Client-Centered Counseling, a proven and effective method of affecting behavior change in patients and clients, and is intended either as an introduction to the technique or as a refresher.

After attending the course, the participant will be able to: Describe and explain effective methods for counseling patients and clients on reducing their risks for STD*s and HIV.

Denver PTC - Virtual STD Intensive Course

The Virtual STD Intensive Course is an interactive, online course. Content covered in the course includes: bacterial and viral sexually transmitted infections, HIV prevention, vaginitis and PID,  case management discussions, and taking a sexual history.

Each course is limited to 15 participants, and is delivered via an interactive online platform over four days (Monday - Thursday).

Denver STD/HIV Clinical Overview and Update - COMBINED

This is the combined STD Overview and the 25th Denver STD/HIV Clinical Update.  By registering for this course, attendees will be able to attend both programs at a reduced rate.

STD/HIV Overview:  The one-day STD/HIV Overview is an excellent program for clinicians new to the STD/HIV field or those wanting to learn more about STDs and HIV, as well as for experienced clinicians who would like an STD/HIV refresher course. The Overview takes place on September 11th.

Hepatitis C in Primary Care: Diagnosis and Treatment For Providers

To build the capacity of Colorado-based providers to better assess, treat, manage and appropriately refer the care of patients suffering from Hepatitis C.

Series Level Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the populations at risk for Hep C
  2. Explain the variable clinical course of Hep C
  3. Assess the likelihood of cirrhosis in patients with Hep C
  4. Discuss the current pharmacologic guidelines to treat Hep C
  5. Overcome the barriers to implementing Hep C treatment

Providers who attend and complete the Hepatitis C ECHO learning series do not need to consult with an infectious disease specialist, gastroenterologist, or hepatologist for approval on the Prior Authorization Request. The patient must be without cirrhosis.

Louisiana STD Nurse Course

This two hour webinar will cover the natural history, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of syphilis in two parts.  The first hour will cover the basics of syphilis infection.  The second hour will be a case-based discussion of diagnosing syphilis by putting together the pieces of clinical symptoms, serology interpretation and staging of disease.

Louisiana STD Refresher Course

The Louisiana STD Refresher Course is a STD lecture series that covers the most current cutting-edge issues related to STD/HIV care and prevention.  The course is offered as a collaboration between the Denver PTC and the Louisiana Office of Public Health STD/HIV Program 4 times per year, generally on the 5th Friday of the month, via webinar.  Course length will vary from 1- 4 hours depending on topics to be covered.

The Montana Prevention with Positives Webinar is a free webinar that will help you will learn strategies for addressing prevalent misconceptions about HIV transmission risk, the most up-to-date knowledge of how viral load, strategic positioning, and post-exposure chemoprophylaxis can affect transmission risk, information your patients need to help them keep their partners safe, relevant prevention messages that can be delivered to all of your HIV-positive patients

Sexual Health Conference

What is Sexual Health?

Texas STD Clinical Update
